abstract | A process for the preparation of water soluble hydroquinone salts comprising reacting an aqueous liquid solution of (a) a formamidinesulfinic acid corresponding to the formula R2 N-C (= NH) -SO2 H where the R groups are independently selected from the group consisting of H and C1-4alkyl and (b) an alkali metal or quaternary ammonium hydroxide in which (c) a quinone is dispersed at a temperature of 10-75 ° C under an inert gas atmosphere. The process of claim 1 wherein the molar ratio of (b) to (a) is at least 4. The process of claim 1 where the molar portion of (a) to (c) is at least 1. The process of claim 1 wherein the R groups of the acid are hydrogen. |
