abstract The present invention relates to two-component fungicidal compositions based on methyl N- (2,6-dimethylphenyl) -N- (methoxyacetyl) -alaninate (= metalaxyl), where more than 70% by weight of the metalaxyl is the R (I enantiomer ) and the composition comprises as an additional component II 4- (2,2-difluoro-1,3-benzodioxol-7-yl) -1H-pyrrol-3-carbonitrile (= fludioxonil), where the weight ratio of I : ii is from 10: 1 to 1:30, preferably from 7: 1 to 1:20. In another field of the invention, a method for controlling and preventing fungal infestation in plants, parts of plants, or in their place of growth, which comprises applying in any desired sequence, simultaneously, or in immediate succession, metalaxyl having a R enantiomer content of more than 70 percent by weight, and fludioxonil.
