abstract A process for preparing a (+) - or (-) - 3-bromocampho-8-sulfonic acid, comprising the steps of: (a) reacting the ammonium salt or the calcium salt of bromocanphosulfonic acid in a solution of calcium hydroxide to form a calcium hemisal; (b) treating the calcium hemisphere with sulfuric acid to produce insoluble calcium sulfate; (c) separating the insoluble calcium sulfate; and (d) recovering (+) - or (-) - 3-bromocampho-8-sulfonic acid. The process according to claim 1, wherein the (+) - or (-) - 3-bromocampho-8 acid -inorganic is (+) - or (-) - 3-bromocampho-8-sulfonic acid.The process according to claim 1, wherein the inorganic salt is an ammonium salt or a calcium salt, and the solution Hydroxide is a solution of calcium hydroxide.
