The optical sensor may be disposed below a display panel of an electronic device. The optical sensor system includes a sensor array of optical detectors and a microlens structure having a front side with an array of light focusing elements and a light blocking layer having an array of optically transparent apertures aligned with the focusing elements, the sensor array being disposed below the light blocking layer, wherein the microlens structure is configured to collect an optical signal from above the microlens structure toward the apertures, through which the optical signal is emitted to the sensor array. The optical sensor system is configured such that light having an angle of incidence less than or equal to a predetermined value is focused by the micro-lens structure onto the sensor array, while light having an angle of incidence greater than the predetermined value is not detected.
