titleOfInvention Macroporous, resorbable and injectable calcium phosphate-based cements (MCPC) for bone repair, bone strengthening, bone regeneration and osteoporosis treatment
abstract A composition and method for producing interconnected macroporous, resorbable and injectable calcium phosphate-based cements (MICP). The compositions of the present invention solidify to form poorly crystalline apatite calcium phosphate upon mixing the powdered ingredients and an aqueous solution. The heterophasic calcium phosphate component of the cement resorbs at different rates, allowing timely replacement by new bone. Interconnected macropores in the cement enable vascularization, growth factor entrapment, cell colonization, and tissue ingrowth. This MICPC can be used in dental and medical applications related to bone repair, reinforcement, reconstruction, regeneration, and osteoporosis treatment, as well as in drug delivery and as a scaffold for tissue engineering.
