Disclosed is a palladium-containing catalyst which is used as a catalyst for highly selectively or highly productively producing an alpha,beta-unsaturated aldehyde and an alpha,beta-unsaturated carboxylic acid from an olefin or producing an alpha,beta-unsaturated carboxylic acid from an alpha,beta-unsaturated aldehyde. Also disclosed are a method for producing such a catalyst and a method for highly selectively or highly productively producing an alpha,beta-unsaturated aldehyde and an alpha,beta-unsaturated carboxylic acid from an olefin or producing an alpha,beta-unsaturated carboxylic acid from an alpha,beta-unsaturated aldehyde. The palladium-containing catalyst contains 0.001-0.40 mol of tellurium metal per 1.0 mol of palladium metal, and can be preferably produced by such a method which comprises a step for reducing a compound containing palladium atoms in an oxidized state and tellurium atoms in an oxidized state with a reducing agent. |
