abstract Personal care compositions and methods for treating or preventing lipid peroxidation of the skin are disclosed. The personal care composition may comprise a carrier and a surfactant system present in an amount effective to treat or prevent lipid peroxidation of the skin. The surfactant system may comprise at least one amphoteric surfactant and at least one anionic surfactant. The method can include contacting the personal care composition with the skin and exposing the skin to contamination. Also disclosed are methods for formulating personal care compositions for treating or preventing lipid peroxidation of the skin. The method may comprise: determining an oxidative protection factor (OPF) for one or more components; using the OPF to select at least one of the one or more components; and The at least one of the one or more components is combined with a carrier to form the personal care composition.
