abstract The present invention provides a catalyst for methacrylic acid production with a high methacrylic acid yield. The present invention provides a method for producing a catalyst for the production of methacrylic acid, comprising the following steps: (1) a step of preparing a catalyst raw material solution A containing Mo, P and V, and (2) a step of preparing a catalyst raw material solution B containing a cationic raw material step, (3) adding another liquid to any one of catalyst raw material liquid A and catalyst raw material liquid B and mixing to prepare a liquid containing a heteropolyacid having a Keggin type structure or a salt thereof, step ( 3), the formulas (i) and (ii) are satisfied. 3.0≤T/( 3 √V)≤13.0(i); 0.01≤u1≤1.0(ii). In formulas (i) and (ii), V represents the volume of the catalyst raw material liquid A [m 3 ], T represents the number of addition ports for adding another liquid, and u1 represents the volume flow rate of the other liquid added [L/ minute]. When T is 2 or more, u1 represents an average value.
