titleOfInvention Optical assemblies and methods for reducing zero-order light in holographic displays
abstract An optical assembly 1 for use in a holographic display for replaying images is provided. The optical assembly may be particularly useful in augmented reality headsets. The optical assembly comprises a light modulating element 12 arranged to be illuminated off-axis by the beam. The light modulation element 12 modulates incident light to generate a playback image, and generates a zero-order beam. A focusing system 19 is arranged after the light modulation element. A light remover 120 is positioned after the focusing system and is configured to remove the zero-order beam from the light focused by the focusing system 19 . The focusing system 19 is configured to focus zero-order light from the light modulating element 12 in a first plane different from a second plane, the second plane being the plane of focus of the parallel light of the playback image . The light remover removes the zero-order light in the first plane.
