An electrochemical cell comprising a positive electrode having an active material as a cathode; a negative electrode having an active material as an anode; a non-aqueous electrolyte; and a separator disposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode between. In one embodiment, the spacer comprises an inorganic material, a type of boehmite formed from nano-sized particles and optionally one or more binder and/or ceramic particles. In a second embodiment, at least one of the cathode, anode, electrolyte, and separator includes boehmite particles that absorb one or more of moisture and/or hydrogen fluoride present in the cell. One or more cells can be combined in the housing to form a lithium-ion secondary battery. |
