abstract |
Provided are methods involving intentional and controlled precipitation of a drug or active agent, or a reduction in the solubility of polymers or other film-forming components of the formulation, or a combination of the two methods, to improve performance by casting into a mold. The process of making microneedles or other objects and improving the final part produced by casting. The selective reduction in solubility of formulation components solves many of the problems associated with casting polymer formulations into molds. The method is preferably suitable for making microneedles of biodegradable polymer and drug complexes, and can also be used to create other solid objects formed by casting the polymer and active agent-containing composition into a mold. |
