The present invention relates to an advanced system for removing air pollutants from combustion and non-combustion processes that produce air pollutants managed by environmental agencies. Contaminants include, but are not limited to, particulate matter; acid gases, including sulfur dioxide, hydrogen chloride, and hydrogen fluoride; mercury, dioxins, metals such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and reagents such as ammonia. The system collects and treats contaminated air streams through two forms of wet scrubbing technology. The gas is first passed through a wet scrubbing reactor capable of completing the reaction between the gas and the selected liquid scrubbing reagent at one or more contact surfaces. The scrubbing medium is selected based on reactivity with the target contaminants in the process, its cost and impact on the environment. From the outlet of the scrubber reactor, the gas is directed through a wet electrostatic precipitator to remove the remaining target contaminants for very high removal efficiencies. |
