Wet-Packed Soft Hydrogel Eye Inserts |
abstract |
The present invention generally relates to a soft hydrogel eye insert that is comprised of at least one hydrogel material in a fully hydrated state and that can be worn comfortably. The hydrogel material includes polymer chains derived from at least one aryl diboron group-containing hydrophilic copolymer and at least one mucoadhesive polymer, and is used to polymerize those mucoadhesive The polymer chain and the aryl dihydroxyboron group-containing hydrophilic copolymer chain are cross-linked to form a cyclic boronic ester cross-linking bond of a three-dimensional polymer network. Those cyclic boronate crosslinks can be slowly hydrolyzed in the patient's tears, resulting in the disintegration (dissolution) of the three-dimensional polymer network and thereby providing the mucoadhesive polymer in a controlled manner, and optionally impregnated in Medications in hydrogel eye inserts. |
