abstract | The present invention relates to a process for upgrading brominated flame retardants, comprising the following stages: a) providing a plastic comprising a flame retardant A consisting of chains of carbon-based chains substituted with at least two bromine atoms; b) recovering the composition comprising the flame retardant A; c) contacting the composition comprising the flame retardant A with a compound A' in an organic solvent to form a mixture C, the compound A' being selected from Na 2 S 2 , K 2 S 2 , potassium or sodium alkylxanthates, and compounds of formula Y-SH, wherein Y is an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal, a metal selected from rare earth metals, -C(NH 2 )=NH unit or -C(NR 1 R 2 )=NR 3 unit, wherein R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are independently of each other H or C 1 -C 10 alkyl, provided that R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are not simultaneously is H; mixture C comprises compound B consisting of carbon-based chains substituted with at least two -SH functional groups; d) the obtained mixture C is purified and said compound B is recovered. |
