titleOfInvention Automatic exposure control for X-ray imaging
abstract In the X-ray imaging method, the acquisition of a signal image is divided into acquisition of two or more sub-images or frames. The first sub-image can be acquired with a low dose exposure followed by a readout cycle. The exposure dose used to acquire the first sub-image may be selected so that it is lower than the default dose for a particular anatomy. The first sub-image may be used to calculate or estimate exposure parameters for sub-images used to acquire a second or subsequent image. This estimate may bring the total dose received by the imager to the desired target value in acquiring the first and second sub-images to provide a good quality image. The first sub-image and the second sub-image can be combined to form a final image. A detector array that supports automatic exposure control (AEC) includes AEC pixels that provide AEC signals. AEC pixels are individually or individually addressable and/or readable.
