The invention relates to the application of a silkworm Period gene or protein in silkworm breeding and silkworm cocoon production, in particular, inhibiting the expression of the gene shown in SEQ ID NO.1 or the protein shown in SEQID NO.2 during silkworm breeding or silkworm cocoon production , to cultivate special silkworm varieties for silk floss production, increase the thickness of the cocoon layer and the volume of the whole cocoon, increase the silk production rate of the cocoon, and increase the content of silk fibroin in the cocoon silk fiber. By inhibiting the expression of the period gene of the silkworm, the invention significantly promotes the development of the posterior silk glands, increases the silkworm cocoon output, and significantly increases the content ratio of silk fibroin in the cocoon silk fibers, thereby effectively improving the cocoon silk production rate. It can also stably change the shape of the cocoon formed by mature silkworm larvae. |
