titleOfInvention | Biomarker Detection |
abstract | The present invention relates to a method for diagnosing a subject suffering from cancer or a susceptibility to cancer. The method comprises detecting in a bodily sample from a test subject at least one carbohydrate and/or at least one amino acid or precursor thereof and/or at least one polynucleotide present in a composition previously administered to the subject Concentrations of characteristic compounds produced by the metabolism of alcohols. The sugar is present in the composition at a concentration of greater than 20,000 mg/100 ml, the amino acid or precursor thereof is present in the composition at a concentration of at least 500 mg/ml, and the polyol is present in the composition at a concentration of greater than 25,000 mg/100 ml. The method also includes comparing the concentration to a reference for the concentration of the characteristic compound in the individual without cancer. In particular, an increase or decrease in the concentration of the characteristic compound compared to a reference indicates that the subject has cancer, or has a susceptibility to cancer, or provides a negative prognosis for the subject's condition. |
