An automatic log gauge system and associated method are disclosed. In the system and method, one or more imagers may capture depictions of respective first and/or second end faces of the plurality of logs, and use the captured depictions to gauge the plurality of logs. The captured profiles can be used to determine diameter values for each end face of the log. The relative position value of each capture end face can be determined and used to form the length of each log. At least one of the diameter values can be multiplied by the determined log length, and the resulting product can be compared to the value in the log gauge table to determine a board foot value for the log. Board foot values for multiple logs can be used to form the log load for distribution. |
