titleOfInvention | Extraction and Refinement of Plant Cuticle Waxes from Aqueous Dispersions Using Temperature and pH Adjustment |
abstract | The present invention relates to a method of extracting and refining waxes from plant material. Briefly, the method comprises the steps of: (a) providing plant material comprising cuticle wax, (b) by dry mechanically treating the plant material and suspending the dry mechanically treated material or a fraction thereof in a isolating cuticle wax from said plant material in an aqueous solution of protease and/or pectinase to obtain a sample comprising plant-derived cuticle wax and dewaxed plant material in aqueous suspension, (c) by increasing the temperature of the sample to solubilize the plant-derived cuticle wax, (d) separating the suspension into a solid fraction and a liquid fraction comprising melted plant-derived cuticle wax, ( e) adjusting the pH and temperature of the liquid fraction to pH 5.5 or lower and 50°C or lower, respectively, (f) separating the mixture into a waxy fraction and an aqueous fraction, (g) separating the mixture from the The plant-derived cuticle wax is recovered from the waxy fraction. |
