The composite photocatalyst uses cobalt-aluminum hydrotalcite nanosheets as a carrier and is decorated with bismuth-rich bismuth oxychloride. Nanosheets, the mass percentage content of cobalt-aluminum hydrotalcite nanosheets is less than or equal to 10%. The preparation method includes mixing cobalt aluminum hydrotalcite nanosheets, water, an alkaline solution, a chloride ion-containing solution and a bismuth ion-containing solution, and performing hydrothermal treatment on the obtained mixed solution. The composite photocatalyst of the invention has the advantages of wide light response range, high photogenerated electron-hole separation efficiency, high photocatalytic activity, good stability, corrosion resistance, etc., and can be used for efficiently degrading persistent organic pollutants in wastewater, and has practical value.
