abstract The invention provides a method for preparing medium/high molecular weight polyisobutene based on a phenolic initiator, comprising the following steps: under the catalysis of a composite catalyst, an isobutene solution is subjected to a polymerization reaction at -60-25°C to obtain a medium/high molecular weight polyisobutene solution. isobutylene; the composite catalyst includes a Lewis acid compound and a substituted phenolic compound having the structure of formula I. This method initiates the cationic polymerization of isobutene at relatively high polymerization temperature by using Lewis acid-activated substituted phenolic compounds as initiators. The weight average molecular weight of the polymer may be greater than 2.5 x 105 g/mol.
