titleOfInvention Techniques for efficient sampling of images
abstract Techniques for efficiently sampling an image are disclosed. The sample mask is used to control which samples are used in a filtering operation, such as bilinear filtering. Conventional filtering operations read a set of samples based on a single coordinate and combine the samples to produce a filtered sample value. Such filtering operations are typically performed using fixed functional units specifically designed to perform such filtering operations. However, for some applications, it may be desirable to exclude one or more samples when generating the filtered sample values. In other applications, it may be desirable to combine samples using different weighting factors. For example, techniques are disclosed herein for extending the capabilities of existing filtering units to exclude one or more samples and assign different weighting rules to combined samples in a filtering operation.
