New Gardnerella endolysins and their uses |
abstract |
The present invention relates to novel species-selective bacteriophage endolysins and their use in the treatment of bacterial vaginosis (BV). The present invention provides recombinant endolysins, ie, domain-swapped endolysins. The present invention also relates to the use of said endolysins in the treatment of diseases or disorders, such as bacterial infections, in particular BV. The present invention further relates to polynucleotides encoding said endolysins. The polynucleotides can also be used to treat such diseases or disorders. The present invention also provides pharmaceutical compositions comprising the endolysins of the present invention for use in the treatment of such diseases or disorders. The endolysins, polynucleotides and pharmaceutical compositions can be administered topically, particularly in the vagina. |
