Methods, devices, and systems for detecting sleep apnea using intracardiac Electrogram (EGM) or Electrocardiogram (ECG) data are described herein. An apparatus and method for detecting potential apnea events (apnea or hypopnea events) using a signal indicative of the electrical activity of the heart of a patient, such as an EGM or ECG. Changes in one or more morphological or temporal features of the signal over several cardiac cycles are determined and used to detect potential apneic events over the measurement period. A number of factors that may lead to false detection of an apneic event may then be examined and if these factors are not present, an apneic event recorded. Also described herein are methods, devices, and systems for classifying a patient as sleeping or awake that may be used to selectively enable and disable sleep apnea detection monitoring and otherwise. |
