The present application discloses kits and related methods for testing an animal's oral microbiome for the presence of one or more bacteria, such as bacteria associated with an oral disease or disorder (e.g., periodontal disease), bacteria associated with good oral health, or bacteria associated with both, in a sample taken from the animal. The kit includes a sample acquisition device having a handle and a head opposite the handle. The kit also includes a dry container for storing the sample acquisition device. The container has an open position and a closed position, the opening means for receiving at least a portion of the head. |
