Disclosed herein are devices for encapsulating biological cells and suitable for implantation in a subject. In various aspects of the present disclosure, the device may include multiple polymer layers. In one aspect, the device includes a first polymer layer and a second polymer layer. In some cases, the first polymer layer can be a nanoporous polymer layer. In some cases, the second polymer layer can be a macroporous polymer layer. The first polymer layer and the second polymer layer can define a lumen for encapsulating the cell population. The device can be used to transplant therapeutic agent-producing cells into a subject (eg, to treat a disease). |
