abstract System, method, and computer program product embodiments for performing beam selection are disclosed herein. Embodiments operate by receiving a request for a report for at least one uplink beam from a base station. In response, the embodiment generates a report for at least one uplink beam. The report for the at least one uplink beam may include an indication that resources corresponding to the at least one uplink beam are available for uplink beam indication. The resource may be a Synchronization Signal Block (SSB) resource or a channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) resource. The embodiment transmits a report for at least one uplink beam to the base station. The embodiment then receives an indication from the base station that at least one uplink beam is selectable for uplink transmission based on the report for the uplink beam.
