abstract |
This paper describes a soft capacitive pressure sensor for continuous wearable health monitoring applications. The corrugated gold film on the elastic substrate acts as a strong parallel-plate electrode, forming a strong bond with the polymer, allowing repeated normal forces to deform the film without failure. The pressure sensitivity is further improved by incorporating a micro-ridge structure supporting the counter electrode to form cavities within the elastic dielectric layer. The pressure sensor is configured to measure human physiological signals, such as pressure exerted by a radial artery pulse from the skin surface. Radial artery pressure detected by the sensor can be correlated to arterial blood pressure. Calibrating the pressure sensor using a neural network can determine absolute blood pressure. |
