titleOfInvention Valves for pressure support systems
abstract The present disclosure describes a valve (50) for a pressure support therapy device that enables a subject to safely achieve supplemental therapy pressure support with low flow oxygen while using heated (or unheated) tubing (17) . The valve delivers a pressurized flow of breathable gas and low-flow oxygen to a heated tube. The valve includes a side port (62) configured to receive supplemental therapy gas. The valve includes electrical components (56, 70) configured to transfer electrical power from the pressure support therapy device to the heated tubing, and is biased when the pressurized flow of breathable gas is not being provided (or is below a predetermined pressure threshold) A plunger (66) positioned to close the flow path (72) from the pressure support therapy device. Closing the flow path prevents oxygen from flowing back through the valve towards the source of pressurized gas.
