abstract The invention relates to an associative polyurethane thickener used in the processing fields of water-based paint, textile printing, water-based resin coating and the like, and discloses a star-shaped polyurethane thickener with anion and cation amphoteric ion cores and a preparation method thereof. The method comprises the following steps: (1) preparing raw materials, (2) preparing a zwitterion core, (3) preparing an active branched arm, (4) carrying out star-shaped chain extension, and (5) carrying out product finishing. The method adopts a multifunctional chain extender which simultaneously has tertiary amine groups and sulfonic groups to carry out chain extension on polyether glycol monoalkyl ester, and introduces two groups with different ionic properties of negative ions and positive ions into the thickener molecules, so that the product has better acid resistance and alkali resistance, and is endowed with certain anti-electrolyte performance, wider application range and better performance.
