abstract The invention disclosed herein relates generally to methods of assessing microsatellite instability in a subject. In one aspect, the present disclosure provides a computer-implemented method of assessing microsatellite instability in a subject, the method comprising: obtaining a quantitative measure of a plurality of microsatellite repeat elements from a blood sample of a subject; processing the plurality of quantization measures to obtain a statistical measure of deviation of the plurality of quantization measures; and detecting the presence of microsatellite instability (MSI) in the subject when a statistical measure of deviation of the plurality of quantitative measures meets a predetermined criterion, or detecting the absence of microsatellite instability (MSI) in the subject when a statistical measure of deviation of the plurality of quantitative measures does not meet a predetermined criterion.
