titleOfInvention Electro-absorption modulator with integrated control loop for linearization and temperature compensation
abstract An electro-absorption modulator (EAM) includes an integrated high-speed electro-optical control loop for very high-speed linearization and temperature compensation for analog optical data center interconnect applications. The control loop can operate in a stable manner because the electronics and the optical components are monolithically integrated on a single substrate in a small-sized form. Due to the small size achieved by monolithic integration, the temperature of the optical and electronics modules are closely coupled and the control loop time delay and phase delay are small enough to be stable even for very high frequency operation. Such an arrangement may use advanced modulation schemes such as PAM-4 and DP-QPSK, so as to provide a data center optical interconnect with an analog transmitter implementation that employs low cost, low power.
