abstract The invention relates to a method for stimulating the growth of biomass mixed with a liquid in a bioreactor (11, 21) by means of ionizing radiation. The following method steps are used here: a) exposing a first partial volume (15, 25) of the liquid located in the bioreactor (11, 21) to ionizing radiation, wherein the first partial volume (15, 25) accounts for at most 10% of the liquid volume (12, 22) in the bioreactor (11, 21); b) mixing a first partial volume (15, 25) of the liquid exposed to ionizing radiation with a second partial volume of the liquid not exposed to ionizing radiation in the bioreactor (11, 21); c) method steps a) and b) are repeated a plurality of times, wherein each partial volume of the liquid in the bioreactor (11, 21) is exposed on statistical average to a total radiation dose of maximum 50 Gy.
