abstract The present invention describes compositions based on certain chromium-free silicate based binders. The composition is an aqueous solution of lithium-doped potassium silicate in combination with aluminum powder or aluminum alloy powder, zinc powder, or a combination thereof. The coatings of the present invention are capable of full curing at temperatures as low as 350-450°F by containing colloidal solutions of nanoscale cerium oxide, thus making the coatings particularly suitable for application on temperature sensitive substrate materials.
