abstract |
A structure for implementing a Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) -based random number generator and a method of forming the structure are disclosed. The structure includes the same type of same design devices in the semiconductor layer. While the value of the performance parameter presented by some devices (i.e., the first device) is within the range established based on the design, the value of the same performance parameter presented by other devices (i.e., the second device) is outside of the range. The random distribution of the first and second devices is achieved by including randomly patterned dopant implantation regions in the semiconductor layer. Each first device is spaced from the dopant implantation region such that its value of the performance parameter is within the range, and each second device is connected to the dopant implantation region such that its value of the performance parameter is outside the range, or vice versa. A random number generator may be operably connected to the apparatus to generate a PUF-based random number. |
