The present invention describes a hydrogen fuel system for generating hydrogen on demand. The system includes an electrolysis cell configured to generate at least a predetermined amount of hydrogen for a predetermined time and to provide at least a predetermined electrical energy for a predetermined time when operating at not less than a predetermined current density, wherein the predetermined amount of hydrogen is at least 1 kg of hydrogen, a predetermined time of not more than 30 minutes, and a predetermined current density of at least 5 A/cm 2 . The system may also include an electrical energy storage system electrically connected to the electrolytic cell and capable of supplying at least 20% of the predetermined electrical energy for a predetermined time. The electrolytic cell may include an anode comprising a plurality of acicular particles dispersed in an ionomer binder, wherein the acicular particles comprise iridium. |
