titleOfInvention Expandable medical device for use with needles
abstract Disclosed herein are medical devices, assemblies, and methods for protecting sharp tips of medical needles. Some embodiments include an expandable device configured to be disposed at least partially within the needle lumen. The device may include an expandable distal portion designed to transition between a first configuration and a second configuration, in the first configuration, the expandable distal portion has a connection with the needle lumen. The inner diameter of the needle lumen is the same as or smaller than its outer diameter, and in the second configuration, the expandable distal portion has an outer diameter that is greater than the inner diameter of the needle lumen. An elongate inner member may be used to transition the expandable distal portion from the first configuration to the second configuration.
