[Technical Problem] To provide a sliding member having a more firm bond between the sliding layer and the backing metal layer than in the past. [Solution] The sliding member is provided with a copper alloy sliding layer on the bonding surface of the backing metal layer. The copper alloy contains 0.5 to 12 mass % of Sn, 0.06 to 0.4 mass % of P, 0.1 to 1 mass % of Fe, and the balance is composed of Cu and unavoidable impurities. The backing metal layer is made of hypoeutectoid steel containing 0.07 to 0.35% by mass of carbon, and has a structure composed of ferrite phase and pearlite. The backing metal layer has a pore-containing region extending from the bonding surface to the inside. In a cross-sectional view perpendicular to the sliding surface, there are a plurality of closed pores in the pore-containing region, and the average diameter of the closed pores is 1-10 μm. A part of an outline of at least some of the closed cells among the plurality of closed cells in a cross-sectional view perpendicular to the sliding surface is constituted by the joint surface. The thickness of the pore-containing region is 2-20 μm, and the ratio of the total volume V2 of the closed pore to the volume V1 of the pore-containing region is V2/V1=0.02-0.08. |
