The present invention, in some embodiments, relates to compounds and methods for preventing ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) in organs, particularly IRI in organs 35 years of age and older. Specific uses include the prevention of IRI in autologous organs in vivo, in replantation and transplantation of donor organs 35 years of age and older. Additional embodiments include the prevention of delayed graft function recovery (DGF) and reduction of the frequency, number and duration of dialysis in recipients of deceased donor kidney transplants. This method requires contacting the organ with a transient p53 inhibitor in vivo or ex vivo. Further provided are novel transient dsNA p53 inhibitors. |
