| abstract |
The present disclosure includes dispersions for impregnating fiber arrangements with thermoplastic materials and systems and methods of using the dispersions. Some dispersions include an aqueous solution and particles, each particle comprising a thermoplastic material, such as polycarbonate, dispersed in the aqueous solution, wherein particles having a diameter of less than or equal to 50 micrometers (μm) comprise at least 50% of the mass of the particle and/or the volume of the particle, and: (1) particles having a diameter greater than or equal to 55 μm comprise at least 5% of the mass and/or volume of the particles; and/or (2) each particle comprises one or more than one additive, such as a flame retardant, dispersed throughout the thermoplastic material. |
