Disclosed herein are binder systems for nonwoven fibrous mats that provide the nonwoven mat with desirable properties, including desirable porosity, desirable surface properties such as desirable wettability and/or moisture resistance, and reinforcement tensile strength. The system comprises a two-part binder comprising (1) a formaldehyde-free carbohydrate-based binder and (2) a formaldehyde-free hydrophobic acrylic-based binder. |
