Antimicrobial release agents, methods for making the antimicrobial release agents, and entrained polymers comprising the antimicrobial release agents are disclosed. The antimicrobial release agent is prepared using an acidified hydrophilic material below 3.5 pH as a carrier, an active compound, and a triggering agent. The entrained polymers of the present invention release antimicrobial agents in the form of a gas (eg, ClO2 ) under certain test conditions, optionally at concentrations in the range of 150 ppm to 1800 ppm per gram of the entrained polymer. |
