The invention provides a methanol synthesis catalyst and a preparation method thereof, belonging to the technical field of catalysts. The mixed solution of Cu(NO 3 ) 2 and Zn(NO 3 ) 2 is subjected to a co-precipitation reaction with a precipitant, and 0.5% to 5% (wt.) of an auxiliary agent is added. Control process temperature, pH value and pH value of precipitation end point. The co-precipitation reaction was carried out under the action of ultrasound, the ultrasonic frequency was 15KHz~30KHz, and the ultrasonic action time was 15min~100min. After washing, the precursor is obtained; the precursor is mixed and slurried with an alumina carrier to obtain a catalyst slurry; granulation and drying are carried out by spray drying, and roasting and flakes are formed to prepare a finished methanol catalyst. The methanol synthesis catalyst prepared by the method of the invention has a larger specific surface area, fine CuO and ZnO crystal grains, more reasonable pore size distribution, and better catalyst activity and thermal stability.
