The invention relates to a catalyst for producing methyl acetate by carbonylation of dimethyl ether. The catalyst is a core/shell type catalyst, comprising: (A) as a core, a catalyst having an eight-membered ring capable of catalyzing the carbonylation of dimethyl ether to produce methyl acetate H-type molecular sieve A with pore structure; (B) a porous layer as a shell coated on a core, the porous layer comprising one or more materials selected from basic, neutral and weakly acidic organic and inorganic materials, wherein The core constitutes at least 65% by weight of the total weight of the core/shell catalyst. When the core/shell catalyst is used for the carbonylation of dimethyl ether to produce methyl acetate, an improved conversion rate of dimethyl ether and a high selectivity to methyl acetate can be obtained, and it also has improved stability. The present invention also relates to the preparation of the aforementioned catalyst and its use as a catalyst in the carbonylation of dimethyl ether to prepare methyl acetate. |
