The present disclosure provides a hybrid vehicle engine start and shift control strategy. A system and method for engine starting and transmission shifting is disclosed in which a controller is operable to reduce torque of a motor and operate a starter-generator (ISG) to start an engine in response to a command to shift the transmission and start the engine. The controller may disengage the second clutch and subsequently shift the transmission to a target gear ratio speed in response to the torque of the motor reaching zero. The controller may increase respective torques of the motor, the ISG, and the engine to drive speeds of the motor, the ISG, and the engine toward a target speed defined by the target gear ratio speed in response to completion of the shift. The controller may engage the second clutch in response to the speed of the motor reaching a target speed and engage the disconnect clutch in response to the respective speeds of the ISG and the engine reaching the target speed. |
