The benzamide compound has the application of inducing and stimulating mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) to differentiate into chondrocytes and repairing cartilage. Also provided are compositions and methods of treating, preventing, or ameliorating arthritis or joint damage by administering a compound or composition of the present invention to a joint, cartilage tissue or tissue proximal to cartilage, or the whole body. The present invention also provides compositions and methods for inducing the differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) into chondrocytes.
