abstract | According to the present invention there is in particular provided a method for the preparation of a solid object having a surface comprising a layered coating of cationic and anionic polymers, wherein the outer coating comprises an anticoagulation substance, the method comprising the following steps: i ) treating the surface of a solid object with a cationic polymer; ii) treating said surface with an anionic polymer; iii) optionally repeating steps i) and ii) one or more times; iv) treating said surface with a cationic polymer; and v) treating the outermost layer of the cationic polymer with an anticoagulant substance, whereby the anticoagulant substance is covalently attached to the outermost layer of the cationic polymer; wherein the anionic polymer is characterized by having: (a) 650 kDa - 10,000 kDa and a solution charge density of (b)>4 μeq/g; and wherein step ii) is carried out at a salt concentration of 0.25M-5.0M. |
