abstract | The present invention relates to a process for isomerizing a 3-(Z)-unsaturated carboxylic acid of formula I-Z or a salt thereof to obtain a 3-(E)-unsaturated carboxylic acid of formula I-E or a salt thereof, wherein R 2 is C 1 -C 24 alkyl, C 2 -C 24 alkenyl with 1, 2, 3 or more than 3 C-C double bonds, unsubstituted or substituted C 5 -C 12 cycloalkyl , or unsubstituted or substituted aryl; R 1 is hydrogen or has one of the meanings described for R 2 ; provided that R 2 has higher priority than R 1 according to IUPAC; wherein the compound of formula I-Z Isomerization is carried out in the presence of an organic anhydride and a base, or in the presence of an enone of the formula CR 11 R 12 C(O) and a base, wherein R 11 and R 12 have the properties described in the claims and specification meaning. In particular, the present invention relates to a method for preparing a composition having an increased content of (3E,7E)-homacamic acid from a composition comprising (3Z,7E)- and (3E,7E)-homacamic acid. |
