abstract The invention discloses the use of SP8 gene as a biomarker for diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma. The invention proves that the expression of SP8 gene in glaucoma patients is significantly down-regulated, and glaucoma and normal people are distinguished according to the difference of SP8 gene expression. In vitro experiments have shown that overexpression of SP8 gene can reverse the damage of retinal ganglion cells, so SP8 gene can be used as a target for the development of clinical drugs for the treatment of glaucoma.
