abstract |
A microporous film having at least one of the following properties: unconstrained MD shrinkage of 2% or more when the film is unconstrained at 90°C for 1 hour; Unconstrained MD shrinkage of 2.5% or greater when fired unconstrained for 1 hour; MD constrained growth less than or equal to 0.2% when measured by the MD restricted growth test; return when measured by the compressibility test Elasticity or recovery of 5% or greater; maximum compression greater than or equal to 18% when measured by the compressibility test; 0.95% or less swelling in DEC when measured by the swelling test in DEC; In the puncture test, the film exhibited circular rather than slit-like openings; the sheet of the film had a thickness of no greater than 250 nm; the normalized puncture strength exceeded 350 g/16 microns; and had a high modulus in the machine direction and less than 40% lower elongation before fracture. Also disclosed are battery separators, batteries or devices comprising at least one microporous film as described herein. |
